Design Codes
Warehousing and distribution are recognised as a major influence on business efficiency. Today customers expect their goods to be delivered without damage, on time and probably next-day. The design of your warehouse and its effective operation are the key to your distribution system.
SEMA pallet racking design codes
At Redirack we work closely with our customers and the relevant design codes to ensure every Redirack installation works well. The most important of these codes is the SEMA code of practice for the design of static racking.
SEMA (The Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association) has taken a close look at every aspect of static pallet racking and has also produced a code of practice for users of static pallet racking.
Essential minimum
These codes of practice are the essential minimum that should be consulted when you look at the design of your warehouse and its racking. They cover the critical areas of:
- Raw materials used in the manufacture of the rack.
- Safe rack loading and structural configurations of beams and frames.
- Operating clearances
- Stability
- Installation tolerances
- Operation and Maintenance.
They also offer clear guidance about width of frames, clearance between back to back loads, pallet overhang and height clearances.
These codes offer tried and tested recommendations and you should be surprised if your supplier suggests anything different.
