The Sacrificial Leg

We have the perfect solution for repairing damaged frames with the minimum amount of disruption and cost - the Sacrificial Leg.

  • Independently tested by the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, Sheffield University
  • Meets all the requirements of the SEMA code

Narrow aisle racking systems can result in regular fork truck impact and inevitable damage to frames, yet in 90% of cases damage is restricted to the first 1000mm of the upright. It seems logical therefore that only the damaged area is replaced, rather than having to replace a frame and dismantling a complete rack – a time-consuming and expensive repair job!

The Sacrificial Leg is a removable accessory designed to overcome the problem of damaged frames with hardly any fuss. With the leg in mind, frames are designed with a splice built into the front leg and the bottom diagonal reversed.

Any impact the frame suffers is absorbed by the specially- designed leg, leaving the rest of the frame undamaged.

Benefits:

  • No need to wait for delivery of a new frame
  • Leg can be replaced in as little as twenty minutes
  • Ease of repair encourages operators to deal with damages as and when they occur, creating a safer working environment

Positive Comments from our Customers:

"Cost saving on replacing damaged legs" - D.J Kite, Distribution Department ASDA

"This innovation would greatly reduce our maintenance costs" - Ivor Huntley, V.A.G (U.K.) Ltd

Safety is high priority when carrying out any repair job - the correct equipment should always be used and the proper procedure followed. The Sacrificial Leg Frame Support has been designed so that the damaged upright can be replaced easily and in the quickest possible time. Available with a variety of special head assemblies to suit different styles of frames, the jack is safe and effective to use. As standard uprights vary in width from heavy-duty uprights, a different head assembly is used for each.

How to change a Sacrificial Leg:

  1. Ensure both bays either side of the damaged leg have been unloaded and are clear of pallets
  2. Use the frame support jack to support the structure above the damaged leg
  3. Remove nuts from the floor fixings
  4. Use the jack to lift the structure above the leg by two to three millimetres
  5. Remove the four button head bolts from the leg splice channel
  6. Lift out the damaged sacrificial leg and replace with the new one
  7. Refit button head bolts and tighten
  8. Lower the jack
  9. Refit the nuts on the floor fixings and if necessary fit two more floor fixings (Rawlock 69-522) through the additional holes in the base plate

Unique to Redirack, the Sacrificial Leg makes time-consuming rack replacements a thing of the past.
