Omega Wolf Ltd, distributors of security goods, is one company to have enlisted the expertise of Trent Design. A disused RAF hanger situated in the grounds of old RAF Newton, also in Nottinghamshire, has been turned into a busy distribution centre for Omega Wolf.

With the help of Redirack, the UK's leading manufacturer of pallet racking, Trent Design has enabled the warehousing staff at Omega Wolf to operate in a spacious, safe environment. Up to 200 pallets arrive from the Far East, America and Europe every day, and between 80 and 100 are dispatched to big-name customers such as ScrewFix Direct and high street supermarket, Aldi. The goods arrive in containers, which are then unloaded on to pallets and put away until required. With activity like this taking place on a daily basis, space utilisation within hanger five was critical.

David Camm, Managing Director of Trent Design, suggested that Omega Wolf invest in a narrow aisle racking system, with the innovation of having three pallets per bay compared with the more usual two. He specified Redirack as a suitable racking supplier, and a total of 4872 pallets are now stored with a block of racking measuring 75m by 32m by 7.2m high. New narrow aisle Flexi trucks* have replaced the company's wide aisle trucks, and they work in aisles which are 2.1m wide.
