Castell Howell Foods is the leading independent food wholesaler in Wales. Providing a onestop shop for caterers, it serves over 4000 customers, employs over 280 staff and stocks over 8000 catering products. The company supplies dry, frozen and gourmet foods.

A move to a new, purpose built distribution centre in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire saw the company upgrade its offices and warehouse. Redirack installed wide-aisle and drive-in racking to provide over 5000 pallet positions of storage space.

The new distribution centre has two main chambers. One provides storage for dry goods, the other for frozen. Each has blocks of wideaisle and drive-in racking.

The wide aisle racking is arranged around 3 metre aisles and the rack runs have five or six bays, storing two pallets at each beam level. The bottom locations are used for order picking, so drop-over panels are used to support non-palletised goods. Beam levels vary to enable the greatest number of product lines to be stored.

Products shipped and received in batches such as cooking oil, frozen chips and peas, are stored in the drive-in racking. With 11 lanes in the freezer area and nine lanes in the ambient area, the drive-in racking provides over 500 pallet storage positions.

Guide rails make loading and unloading the racking fast and easy, our unique sacrificial leg minimises the disruption if a frame should get damaged accidentally.
