Manchester Training

Redirack is part of a very exciting development taking place in North Manchester. Together with Manchester Training and eleven other leading suppliers to the logistics industry, we have built a fully operational warehouse for the sole purpose of skills training. This unique facility will provide learners with state-of-the-art equipment to develop and hone their skills.

The Warehouse Technology Group (WTG), the name given to the collaboration, has built a working warehouse featuring all the equipment a fully operational distribution centre would have. Storage racks, from Redirack of course, are supplemented by a conveyor system, mezzanine floor and steel shelving. In-rack sprinklers, floor marking, rack labelling and passive fire protection complete the static hardware.

Stock management and control is achieved using a combination of mobile computing and wireless data collection devices, plus a powerful warehouse management software system. Visitors can sit in the specially constructed warehouse office to see how the system manages real world situations. There is even the option of seeing the system in use at a remote site, linked via the internet.

The WTG objective was to create a fully operational warehouse to showcase modern storage and handling equipment while providing an ideal facility for training. Over the coming months the site will host a program of events and open days for various audiences. Tremendous interest from industry bodies and local companies has raised the likelihood of similar facilities being opened in other parts of the UK.
