Pick and Choose

PikaPak is a leading distributor of top brand name electrical products with a choice of over 3000 separate products from many of the UK’s leading suppliers. A £4 million warehouse extension added 35,000² feet to the company’s warehouse, and it was kitted out by Redirack.

Warehouse Operations Manager, Craig Marks takes up the story: “I approached 3 different companies for a pallet racking quote. Redirack were appointed because they were the most professional, accommodating and proactive company that I dealt with in the crucial, early stages.”

The warehouse extension involved a mezzanine floor, narrow aisle racking, shelving and goods lift installation. We oversaw the Pick and whole project and acquired the goods lift. We also organised building regulations approval, delivering the completed installation ready for PikaPak to take-over.

The narrow aisle racking system has eleven double and two single runs of racking. Each run is twenty seven metres long and has six bays. There are three beam levels in each bay, with the top beam being at eight and a half metres. The aisles are 1700mm wide. Pallets are stored three wide and two high at each beam level. Anti-collapse mesh is fitted to the outside of both end racks to protect warehouse personnel.

The mezzanine floor adds an additional 3502 metres of floor space, which is used for additional storage. Pedestrian access to the floor is via a staircase, with a goods lift and pallet gate providing goods access. The additional floor space is used as a picking area, with part pallets and box stock being stored on a shelving system.

PikaPak’s busy Ipswich depot dispatches approximately 1,000 orders per day. The new storage system, which has provided an extra 3,600 pallet locations, has enabled the company to expand their stock range and offer an improved service to their thousands of customers.

Craig Marks picked his words carefully: “We received excellent service from the planning stages, right through to completion. They were a great company to work with – I highly recommend Redirack.”
