It is a well-known fact that alcohol such as Whisky, Brandy and Sherry matures and improves its flavour over time, which can obviously be a lengthy process. As the company wanted to store casks in this particular facility, they had very specific storage requirements that had to be met by Redirack’s Technical Engineers. Firstly, access to casks via walkways in order to take samples was a critical aspect to the design. Consideration then had to be given to the type of handling equipment to be utilised, as well as meeting the very strict measures required in terms of how individual casks were supported due to ‘Angels Share’. (The Angels Share is the amount of distilled spirits lost to evaporation from the cask or barrel into the air as it ages).
